Undergraduate : B.F.A. in Art

The School of Art & Art History utilizes a B.F.A. in Art undergraduate application for all students seeking to enroll in the freshmen Foundations coursework related to the B.F.A. in Art degree requirements for Studio Art, Photography, Film/Video, and Visual Communications.

This application also applies to transfer students and any current OU student seeking to change their major to the B.F.A. in Art degree.

B.F.A. in Art Admission Process:

Step 1

All students must first meet the general admissions requirements of the University of Oklahoma. A link to the general university admission application is listed below:

University of Oklahoma Undergraduate Application

Applications to the university must be submitted by the stated deadline.

Step 2

All students must submit a B.F.A. in ART Application separate from the university application above. This application requests that either a small portfolio be submitted for review OR that a student attend an on-campus interview for consideration.

Students need to send this application as soon as possible and should not wait to receive a letter of acceptance from the university before it is sent into the School of Art & Art History.

B.F.A. in ART Application

As applications are received, a faculty panel will review the submissions and schedule on-campus interviews accordingly for students who do not submit a portfolio. In an effort to keep class sizes reasonable and provide the best possible experience for all of our students, the school limits the overall enrollment into the Foundations courses and B.F.A. in Art program.

After you are accepted:

Most students will be required to complete the 1st year FOUNDATIONS program requirements. Incoming freshmen will be advised through University College. Students who have an Advanced Placement (AP) drawing portfolio score of 3 or higher are eligible to receive 3 credit hours applied to ART 2313 Beginning Drawing course.

Transfer students and OU change of major applicants will need to be advised through the School of Art & Art History. Advising appointments will be scheduled during the School of Art & Art History Advising Days in late spring and early summer.

Before any student is formally accepted into the degree program and allowed to continue the degree coursework; students must pass an annual foundations portfolio review held every Spring semester.

Accepted students also need to meet the LAPTOP COMPUTER REQUIREMENT (click for details)

Don’t forget your SCHOLARSHIP application:

Contingent upon acceptance into OU and the School of Art & Art History B.F.A. in Art, students are eligible to apply for the annual scholarship awards distributed by the School of Art & Art History. Nearly $50,000 are distributed every year to promising & talented students.

>The scholarship deadline reoccurs annually on March 1st each year.
