The Short Films Screening is on Friday, October 15, 7:30 p.m., at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History Kerr Auditorium and is free and open to the public. From California come Oklahomans Steve Leake and Bryan Beasley, with their comedy “EXPERIENCING RAJU,” winner of the Seattle Summer Film and Videotape Festival for Best Category and Best of Show, and Silver Star Award at WorldFest Houston 2000. The film is the story of Buddy Brewer, an ordinary guy searching for answers in all the wrong places until he meets Raju, the Indian mystic who gives him the key to success. A special presentation of Arkansans Todd C. Knowlton and Kirk Demarais with “FLIP,” the story of an eight-year-old boy in the late 1960’s and his passion for comic book advertisements, winner of the Audience Choice – 2004 Fayetteville Film Festival, Official Selection at the 2004 Florida International Children’s Film Festival, the 2004 Dallas Video Festival, and the 2004 DeadCenter Film Festival. “AIR BAND” brings another nostalgic story to the screen, based on the rise and fall of the great 1980’s rock band, Air Band. These guys need no instruments to put on a great show. The film features an Oklahoma cast and crew and was written, produced and directed by Lance Brittan. From Pennsylvania producer/director John-Paul Nickel and his latest short film, “GRIM.” Not-your-every-day love story, “Grim” explores what happens when the guy you fall in love with is the spirit of Death. Is love more powerful than death? Melissa Sue Lopez’ “MASQUERADE,” based on a story by brother Luis, is a surprise birthday party gone awry. The Lopez team from Mexico and Oklahoma is working on a feature film that collects a series of stories based on different human emotions. “DRIFTING” is Brett Bower’s latest short film shot with local cast and crew in Prague, Oklahoma, that puts forth a powerful story and a question of faith. The host of the Independent Christian Film Festival and president of Vision Forum Ministries, where “Drifting” is a semi-finalist competing for the Grand Prize, believes “it will have a strong reaction with audiences.” The two short animation films were produced by Brian Hearn and Shawn Downey. Hearn is the Film Curator at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and an adjunct faculty member of the University of Oklahoma. Downey is a self-taught animator and an accomplished oil painter, who worked as the premiere silk painter for Kiss of the Wolf, an art-wear clothing company based in Norman. “We have organized a program that has variety and interest to entertain our audience,” said award-winning producer/director and filmmaker-in-residence in the School of Art, Shawnee Brittan, head the Independent Film Project/OU. “The evening promises all the elements to make you reflect, laugh, nostalgic for the old days, and enjoy the latest trend in animation films.” The Short Films Screening, along with symposia and workshops, is part of the Independent Film Project/OU activities to promote independent filmmaking in the region. Upcoming events include the Saturday, November 20 Documentary Workshop with the special presentation of award-winning OU graduate Catherine Tambini. Tambini’s “FARMINGVILLE” premiered this year at Sundance Film Festival and her documentary “SUZANNE FARRELL: ELUSIVE MUSE” received an Academy Award nomination.
