Friday, October 27 @ 7:00pm. Motion Picture Symposium: “An Evening With Angry Filmmaker/Hollywood Sound Designer Kelley Baker”. Guerrilla filmmaker Kelley Baker will screen two of his independent short films, as well as the Oscar-nominated Far From Heaven, starring Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid. Baker, who has worked often with acclaimed directors Gus van Sant and Todd Haynes, will share his experience with independent filmmaking and distribution, and his strong views on how the indie genre has been subjugated by the Hollywood system. "Making Arrangements" - a Melissa Scaramucci film. Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History - Kerr Auditorium - Screening and Q&A with Crew and Crew Winner of the Best Feature Award - Crossroads Film Festival, Best Feature and Best Screenplay Awards - Magnolia Film Festival, and Official Selection at the Marco Island Film Festival and Rhode Island Film Festival, "Making Arrangements" focuses on the frenetic world of a high-end flower shop. Set over four days, this adrenalized comedy documents six florists and their clients as they struggle together to create perfect events. With two weddings, a convention, and an unexpected funeral, the film spotlights what happens when ordinary people "go floral." "Making Arrangements" was filmed in Oklahoma City and the cast and crew are all Oklahomans. Writer/Director Melissa Scaramucci is an OU graduate and this is her first feature length film in collaboration with award-winning short filmmaker Peter Austin Hermes, who also worked as director of photography.

Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History - Kerr Auditorium - Lunch Provided This year's symposium brings together various award-winning horror films and talents in Oklahoma for a day of screenings and behind the scenes question and answer sessions. Lunch will be served at the Museum's Redbud Cafe.

"Waitin' To Live" - a Joey Travolta film, written by Nick Felix. Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History - Kerr Auditorium - Screening and Q&A with Crew and Crew After being murdered for refusing to sell his homestead, 60-year old BUCKO CASSIDY (Lee Majors) reincarnates to help his son JUNIOR (Derek Hamilton - "Taboo," "Out Cold") avoid an identical fate. Bucko also learns Junior's wife , ELLIE (Rachel Wilson - "Mystery Alaska") is about to divorce him. This will force Junior to sell the house and junk yard to satisfy the divorce settlement. Junior is desperate and lost.
Six months after his burial, Bucko reappears to his son, explaining there is a backlog of paperwork in heaven and that he is currently in a holding pattern. While he is "waitin' to live" he has been allowed to temporarily return as a spirit, but subject to be called back at any time for his next incarnation assignment. This romantic, drama-comedy continues with more turns that keeps the audience entertained. Filmed in Nevada, Arizona, and Idaho, "Waitin' To Live" is an feature film with great actors like Reginald Vel Johnson, Alison Eastwood, Margaret Avery, and Barry Corbin.

The Independent Film Maker Series presents " Star-Crossed" - Brett Bower's CwC Productions film is a romantic comedy that pokes fun at romantic comedies dealing with the adventures of a hopeless romantic, an aspiring actress, a salesman, a class clown, a ditsy flirt, a jealous boyfriend, a dream girl, an older sister, and a sarcastic boss. These colorful characters take a humorous look at the universal quest for the one true soul mate. A clean and family-oriented movie shot mainly in the Oklahoma City area, "Star-Crossed is the winner of the Audience Choice Award for Best Feature and the Oklahoma Best Feature at the 2003 Bare Bones International Film Festival. Brett Bower, who plays 'Toby Alexander' in the film, is a filmmaker, actor, and composer originally from Tulsa and now living in Oklahoma City. Jennifer Kristin Garner, 'Kara Davenport,' has had principal roles in films as "Edge of Night," "Moment Form," and has been an extra in "Eddie" and "The Rookie."

The Independent Film Maker Series presents "Stark Fear" - an evening to honor OU film professor Ned Hockman and Hollywood actress Beverly Garland, who pioneered leaving Hollywood to work on independent films. Ned Hockman produced more than 200 films and TV programs winning wide acclaim. His productions include this 1962 thriller starring Beverly Garland as a put-upon woman whose unemployed husband physically and emotionally tortures her until she leaves him for her boss. Beverly, who has more than 700 television and film roles to her credit, is probably best known as Fred MacMurray's wife on the long running series "My Three Sons" and as Kate Jackson's mother on "Scarecrow and Mrs. King."

The Independent Film Maker Series presents "American Detective" - written and directed by OU film major graduate, Dan Brown, Left Handed Films. This is a dark and increasingly twisted comedy where a loner opts to instantly become a private eye by mail order and then uses his license and equipment to stalk the girl of his dreams and become her ideal man. "American Detective" is winner of the Best Feature Film of the 2000 Deep Ellum Film Festival, and a finalist at the Nantucket Film Festival, where it premiered, and the Austin Film Festival. Dan worked with Propaganda Films in Los Angeles, directing smart and exciting music videos and commercials. He moved to Austin, Texas, where he began a career as an award-winning producer for the largest advertising agency in the Southwest.

The Independent Film Project in the University of Oklahoma School of Art begins its 2003 Independent Film Maker Series with the screening, with cast and crew, of The Round and Round , produced by the Maquire Production Company, with Executive Producer Mac J. Maquire, Director Rod Slane and Producer Jill Noonan (Dreams Beyond Productions), and Screenwriter Kent F. Frates. The cast includes Oklahoma actors Robert Knott (Pollock, Shades of Blue) , Robert Peters, Rex Linn, Gaylord Sartain, and Becky Love, as well as Wilford Brimley (The Firm, Cocoon) , Alex Meneses (The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas) , and Hunter Von Leer ( Dallas, The History of the World Part II) . The film was shot in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and Sand Springs.
