Shawnee Brittan

A native Oklahoman and a graduate of New York University, Brittan has been proclaimed as the foremost motion picture producer/director in the Southwest by Variety and has received international acclaim in a career that has spanned more than 25 years in film and video production. His films include Indian Exposition, an Academy Award finalist in 1978; En Pointe: The lives and Legacies of Ballet's Native Americans; God's Drum, winner of the Vision Award and awards at the Columbus International Film Festival, New York Festival, and the Red Earth Film and Video Festival; Billy, winner of Norway's Noblepris Award; and, Alpha, the only Oklahoma film to ever be shown at New York's Carnegie Hall.

Shawnee's World Ward II documentary, Sleep My Sons: The Story of the Arisan Maru, won several awards including The Telly, the Summit, the Videographer, the Aurora, the Cindy, the Communicator, the Aegis, the Gold Award from the Houston International Film Festival, a national award from Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge, and a special achievement award from the Military Order of World Wars.

Brittan has also received the Royal Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts from England's Queen Elizabeth II and the Governor's Arts Award, Oklahoma's most distinguished recognition for artists in any medium.
