Jonathan Hils received his M.F.A. from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and his B.F.A. from Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Before coming to OU he taught sculpture and drawing at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC. Hils' primary creative research involves abstract sculpture that investigates the nature of structure, organic and industrial systems and the aesthetics of craft. The recipient of the 2005 Oklahoma Visual Art Coalition Fellowship, his work has been exhibited across the U.S. in both solo and group exhibitions and included in a number of private, corporate and museum collections. Most recently, his work received the Grand Prize for the 21st Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition through the Turchin Center for the Arts at Appalachian State University. His teaching accomplishments include a University of Oklahoma Regents Award for Superior Teaching, a Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts Peer Recognition Award and a School of Art Colleagues Award. Additionally, students under his direction have received both an International Sculpture Center Outstanding Student Achievement for Contemporary Sculpture Award and an honorable mention.
Hils currently serves as a member of the board for the Oklahoma Visual Art Coalition (OVAC) and is represented by Walker Fine Art, Denver, CO.
