I have drawn from early childhood and believe that drawing is essential and preparatory to any area of the fine arts that a person may wish to pursue. Drawing is simply the ability to observe accurately, and through that observation the student acquires knowledge about the elements and principles that make up all pieces of art.
I worked as a professional artist (painter) from 1979 until returning to school in 1993 to earn an MFA in the area of Printmaking. My main area of emphasis in printmaking is lithography and relief. I am also experienced in Intaglio processes and serigraphy (oil based and water based).
In the area of painting I am currently working in acrylic on masonite panels. My subject matter deals with the illusion of three-dimensional spaces, both interior and exterior, using objects such as chairs and columns to illustrate how light defines the surfaces on those objects. Light and shadow are always the main concern of my work. How the light falls on an object or how it illuminates an entire setting is especially intriguing to me. The subtle difference between interior and exterior light is the subject of my upcoming series of paintings.
