Course Offerings In conjunction with the Art History department of the School of Art, the Charles M. Russell Center offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses in the history of American Western art. One upper-level survey course, The American West in Art, Photography and Popular Culture, is offered each fall and a second, The American West in Photography, every spring. A graduate seminar, Reflections on Western Art, is offered periodically, as well. These courses explore both traditional and contemporary viewpoints regarding the interpretation of the West through art. They also investigate how the West as a place-through cultural, social and geographical determinism-was affected by the broader context of American art and thought.
